Join Our Team!

The San Geronimo Valley must transform into a Fire Adapted Community.  VERG is embracing the enormous work required to enact this vital transformation and is expanding our organization to accomplish the task.  To get more insight into what a Fire Adapted Community is, go to sgverg.org/WhatIsFireAdapted.

In the past, VERG relied on a small team of volunteers organizing neighborhoods focusing on preparedness. Now Wildfires threaten our community year-round, and we must adapt to this new reality.  To tackle this adaptation project, VERG is forming and staffing subcommittees to plan and complete the work needed for this transformation to succeed.

To consider which Committee is a good fit for you, see the list of Committees we’re forming below. Once you’re ready to join a committee, click on this link: CommitteeSignUp.  Input the info requested and any leave any comments you have.

If you’d like to talk with someone from our Leadership Team about a committee, click on the link: CommitteeSignUp, input your name, contact info and note that you have questions. We’ll be in touch to set a time to talk.

VERG Committees

Communication

This team focuses on informing and inspiring Valley residents to prepare for disaster and motivating residents to become Fire Adapted.  It also creates an awareness of the service VERG performs for the Valley by promoting projects, recruiting project volunteers, and sharing successes.

Equally important is the role of curating content.  There are so many content sources, so residents can quickly become overwhelmed with information and too many recommended activities.  We share what’s important, why, and our approach in the Valley.

Our vehicles to reach the community include our website, newsletters, emails, Facebook, and Twitter.  Stone Soup, Pt Reyes Light, and Marin IJ are also resources.  Additional activities:

  • Expand membership
  • Recruit volunteers
  • Motivate preparedness
  • Inspire fire mitigation action
  • Share projects, results, inspire participation
  • Promote Fundraising
  • Promote events
  • Content curation

Finance

The role of the finance committee is primarily to provide financial oversight for the organization. Tasks include budgeting and financial planning, financial reporting, and creating and monitoring internal controls and accountability policies.  They are responsible for:

  • Accounting
  • Budgeting
  • Insurance
  • Compensation
  • Management of operational expenses

Membership & Development

Membership committee members create strategies to keep their current members active and involved to preserve their retention numbers. Committee members perform such duties as organizing membership drives or campaigns, setting up direct mail campaigns, and conducting membership surveys.  The Committee also develops long-term and annual fundraising plans to generate the funds needed to meet the organization’s fundraising goal.

  • Manages member data
  • Fundraising
  • Recruitment and retention
  • Volunteers
  • Grants
